Fed: No targets in visa crackdown, says PM

Prime Minister JOHN HOWARD says Australia won't pick on any particular country in itscrackdown on visitors who overstay visas.

The government reportedly will target visitors who overstay tourist visas through acontroversial profiling process which identifies which people from which country are mostat risk of overstaying.

The Ethnic Community Council of NSW has raised concerns saying it appears the governmentis not concentrating on European countries.

Mr HOWARD's told Cairns radio 846 it's all about making certain that people who cometo Australia on a certain basis don't stay on some other basis.

He says the government is not picking on anybody.

Mr HOWARD says it's absurd to suggest that his government is going to be more friendlyto caucasians than Asians.

He says Australia is the last country in the world that would be unfriendly to visitorsfrom Asia.
