Fed: Labor demands fed govt moves on water in CoAG

Labor says the federal government has to address water pricing, property rights andriver environmental flows at this week's Council of Australian Government.

Opposition primary industries spokesman KERRY O'BRIEN says the nation's farmers aredemanding action on water reform and property rights, and not more bickering between thefederal and state governments.

Friday's CoAG meeting is to look at the issue of water and property rights, but littleis expected to be resolved.

There's pressure on all governments to come up with a property rights system governingwater, and agreement on compensation for farmers who are forced to give-up access to water.

Senator O'BRIEN says the federal government has to go beyond just talking about theneed for water reform and come up with proposals.
